Visiting Wyoming

It's spring in Wyoming, and you can bet there’s plenty to do in the Cowboy State. Catch the last of Wyoming’s winter activities before the temperatures rise, or visit festive cities like Laramie, Gillette and Rawlins for small town fun with a country flair. An active town in northern Wyoming just an hour from the Devils Tower National Monument, Gillette offers everything from archery to antiquing in its historic downtown. Set in southern Wyoming, Laramie and Rawlins offer outdoor recreation, a plethora of activity at the University of Wyoming, and fine dining in a stunning historic district. Don’t miss spring in the Equality State.

Kick up your heels in Gillette. A must-see when visiting northern Wyoming is the Durham Buffalo Ranch – open for Durham Ranch Tours come April. The ranch – totaling 65,000 acres and home to 3,000 buffalo – offers two-hour bus tours allowing its visitors to experience American Bison in their natural habitat. Catered meals are available during your tour of the Durham Ranch, or grab a delicious meal from the Open Range Steakhouse – offering Durham Ranch bison on their menu. This spring, see the real Wyoming countryside at the Durham Buffalo Ranch, and enjoy a night in at the Best Western hotel in Gillette.

No matter the time of year, there’s always something to do in Laramie. Found in southeastern Wyoming, Laramie offers hunting, fishing, and hiking, but most importantly, mountain biking. Grab your bike and explore the Medicine Bow and Routt National Forests for gorgeous paths in the Laramie Ranger District – especially in the Little Laramie Trailhead and the Happy Jack Trailhead.

If outdoor recreation is not your thing, visit Laramie for the museums, art galleries, and all there is to explore at the University of Wyoming. The scenic campus of University of Wyoming is home to an onsite planetarium, geology museum, art museum, anthropology museum and insect gallery. For history buffs, check out the guided tour at the Historic Ivinson Mansion – encompassing the Laramie Plains Museum – or chug on over to the Laramie Union Pacific Train Depot, part of the Nici Self Museum. Whether indoors or out, you’ll be on your feet this spring in southeastern Wyoming, so be sure to rest up at the Best Western hotel in Laramie.

Set 100 miles west of Laramie, Rawlins is yet another adventurous town in southern Wyoming. Try your hand at trout fishing in Seminoe State Park, just 30 miles north of town, or stick around town for shopping and dining in historic downtown Rawlins. This spring, treat yourself to an unforgettable meal at the Aspen House Restaurant – a Victorian style eatery in historic downtown Rawlins, built in 1905. Enjoy Rawlins’ best in seafood and wine, and grab dessert at Huckleberry’s Bistro & Ice Cream.

Mountain biking, museums, and more buffalo than you can handle, that’s spring in Wyoming.
