Visiting Wyoming

Wyoming, the Cowboy State, where the Great Plains in the northeast merge with the majestic Rocky Mountains in the west. The state is home to Yellowstone National Park, the first National Park in the US. The 2010 – 2011 winter in Yellowstone may be the last to allow limited use of snowmobiles and snow coaches by the National Park Service. Winter in Yellowstone Park is magical and a must-do if you are near the region. Now is the time. Cheyenne, the state capital, anchors the southeast corner of Wyoming and is the largest city in the state. Near the crossroads of Interstate 80 and Interstate 25, Cheyenne is called the Magic City of the Plains.

Laramie, 50 miles west of Cheyenne is home to the University of Wyoming and the Cowboy and Cowgirl athletic teams. The Cowboy football team plays at Jonah Field at War Memorial Stadium and maintain a 68% win record at home – the 7,200 foot elevation just may be a home advantage. The Cowboy's football last regular 2010 season game is November 20th against Colorado State. Come join the fun and excitement of fall football. The Best Western Laramie Inn and Suites is convenient for any University of Wyoming event. With reasonable rates and clean, comfortable rooms, Best Western Hotels is an ideal choice.

Get into the spirit of the holidays in Saratoga, less than an hour south of Rawlins. The city hosts its 20th Anniversary Christmas Parade and Winter Wonderland on December 4th, 2010. The evening parade delights onlookers with floats lit and decorated for the holidays. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be waiting for visits with the children downtown, amidst the winter wonderland and festival of trees. This is a wonderful small town family celebration for the holidays, perfect to kick-off a special 2010 season. The Best Western CottonTree Inn in Rawlins makes a convenient and ideal spot for accommodations. Just off Interstate 80, travelers have easy access to all Wyoming's attractions and cities.

Lander, in Central Wyoming, hosts the 2011 Wyoming State Winter Fair. The only winter livestock show and fair in the state will be held at Old Timers Rodeo Arena. Enjoy the livestock exhibitions and business fair along with live entertainment and a dance. The Best Western The Inn at Lander is perfect for travelers. The complimentary Best in the West breakfast is included in the affordable rates.

Riverton, north of Lander 20 miles, celebrates winter at the Wild West Winter Carnival. With a schedule full of fun family events and activities, the carnival is a great reason to get out of the house into the fresh Wyoming winter air. The 2011 Wild West Winter Carnival is January 14th through February 6th. Bring family and friends out for the Night Parade, a tethered Hot-air Balloon ride, and to see the amazing snow and ice sculptures. There will be contests for the kids and a treasure hunt, adults will enjoy the Wild West Winter Carnival Gala and the car and bike show - there is fun for everyone.
