Visiting Wyoming | Fall 2014
The Cowboy State invites visitors to experience the beauty that is Wyoming in the fall. From the eastern Rockies to the high plains, communities like Gillette, Cody, and Casper boast a wealth of ways to get in touch with your inner cowboy.
It's the best time of year to visit Boysen State Park, less than half an hour south of Thermopolis. Aside from crisp air, smaller crowds, and breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, the park boasts Boysen Reservoir as its centerpiece – one of Wyoming's best walleye and trout fisheries. Another 30 minutes south of the park, Riverton draws art lovers to the Fremont County Fairgrounds for a two-day celebration of art, November 14th and 15th. The 2014 Winter Craft Fair features numerous arts and crafts vendors with their creations on full display and available for purchase. It all starts Friday, the 14th, at 5 p.m.
The quaint and charming streets of downtown Powell are perfect for a relaxing stroll any time of year, but there may be no better time than November 21st. The 2014 Sample the Seasons event keeps shops and boutiques along cute corridors like Sheridan Avenue open late, offering unique sales and even some hors d'oeuvres to help welcome the holiday season. Get there early for the best deals – things get going at 5 p.m.
Laramie football fans enjoy another clash of two NCAA Mountain West Conference rivals on November 22nd, when the University of Wyoming Cowboys take on the Boise State Broncos. Cheer on your team in this crucial, late-season matchup by joining over 21,000 fans at War Memorial Stadium. Kickoff time remains to be determined.
Families visiting Cody this season will get a kick out of the 2014 Buffalo Bill Center of the West Holiday Open House. Sweet treats abound, singers, musicians, and dancers provide the entertainment, and Santa Claus even pays a visit – all amid vibrant holiday decorations. The music will range from choirs and carolers to jazz bands and barbershop quartets, and Santa plans to spend all day visiting with children. The fun goes from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Cheyenne, the state’s urban hub and most populous city, offers world-class arts and entertainment year-round, and the holiday season is no different. Take, for instance, the Cirque Dreams HOLIDAZE show, December 4th at 7:30 p.m. at the Cheyenne Civic Center. The Broadway-worthy show, now in its 5th year of touring, is stuffed with enough holiday cheer and high-flying fun to make any Scrooge smile.
