Winter in Wyoming means unparalleled snowmobiling, spectacular wildlife viewing, and shredding slopes across the Cowboy State. North of Laramie in the Casper area, Hogadon Ski Area is known for short lift lines and un-crowded slopes.
Sheridan in north central Wyoming is conveniently located near the winter recreation filled Big Horn Mountain. Cross country skiers, check out the trail at Willow Park and Pole Creek or adventure along miles of groomed trails in the Big Horns. Big Horn Ski Area nearby is known for its extensive terrain park.

Travelers along Interstate 80 through central Wyoming keep Rawlins on their itinerary. Rawlins hosts Winterfest 2013 on Saturday December 14th. Shoppers in downtown Rawlins enjoy special events and giveaways, begin the day with the kids at Breakfast with Santa at the Jeffrey Center, or bake your best gingerbread delight to enter into the Gingerbread Contest.
Winter is the ideal season to enjoy Thermopolis, home of the world’s largest mineral hot springs. Hot Springs State Park is a must for Thermopolis visitors. The park’s Wyoming State Bathhouse is free and the water is 100% mineral water. The Star Plunge and Hellie TePee Pools feature indoor and outdoor pools, slides, and hot tubs among the amenities.
Thermopolis is also home to the Wyoming Dinosaur Center & Dig Sites. The center is open through winter. Kids love the site of over 30 mounted dinosaur skeletons, especially Stan, the 41 foot T-Rex set to attack a Triceratops. Thermopolis located 80 miles southeast of Cody is a great family travel destination.
The 2014 New Year is out of the chutes early in Gillette with the Wyoming State Finals of the Ranch Sorting National Championships. Gillette’s CAM-PLEX East Pavilion hosts events January 11th and 12th. Enjoy Wyoming’s western heritage and watch top cowboys showoff their horsemanship skills in Gillette.
