Visiting Wyoming
With the spring opening of Wyoming’s Yellowstone National Park, communities across the Cowboy State become gateways to the natural wonders of Yellowstone as well as the adventures of Grand Teton National Park and Devils Tower National Monument. Killpecker Sand Dunes, outside Rock Springs, are perfect for a romp on an ATV or motorcycle, while Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area, near Green River, is ideal for boating, fishing and water recreation. Make Gillette or Lusk your doorway to explore Thunder Basin National Grassland. Summer is also the season for fantastic Wyoming events, festivals and rodeos. From Kemmerer, Evanston and Green River in the southwest to Gillette, Hulett and Sundance in northeast, Wyoming celebrations await spring and summer travelers.
Make an early season visit to Cody for the 2013 Spring into Yellowstone Birding & Wildlife Festival May 15th through 19th. Spring migrations and birthing season offer spectacular wildlife and bird viewing in Cody and Wyoming’s Greater Yellowstone area. Join wildlife experts and photographers on guided tours of the North Fork corridor and Yellowstone Park, enjoy the Cody Wildlife Film Festival, and listen to lectures from top experts on northwest Wyoming’s flora and fauna.
For three days in July, east central Wyoming and the city of Casper become a mecca for runners, athletes and adventure seekers. The Revolution3 Adventure Race Series presents three 2013 events in and around Casper, July 18th through 21st. Join the three and a half day Cowboy Tough Wyoming Adventure Race, the family-friendly Glow Night 5K at Mike Lansing Field, or the Cowboy Tough Urban Adventure Challenge in downtown Casper.
There is northing like a cold beer on a hot summer day, and communities celebrate summer at local brew festivals across Wyoming. Enjoy Memorial Day weekend 2013 at the Old West Brewfest in Jackson, or head to Lander June 7th and 8th as the Lander Brew Festival takes over the soccer fields adjacent to Lander Valley High School. Cheyenne, the Cowboy State’s capital city, hosts the 2013 Wyoming Brewers Festival June 14th through 16th at Frontier Park, while Evanston launches summer June 22nd at Depot Square with the Beer, Brats and Bluegrass Festival.
A visit to Wyoming isn't complete without the excitement of a Rodeo. Fourth of July visitors enjoy the 2013 Cody Stampede July 1st through 4th at Stampede Park, with Sheridan hosting the 83rd Sheridan WYO Rodeo a week later, July 10th through 13th. Sheridan’s WYO Rodeo is a stop on the Wrangler Million Dollar Silver Tour featuring top rodeo competitors.
