What To Do When You're in Cheyenne!
Wyoming’s capital and largest city, Cheyenne is a happening city in the southeastern corner of the state. Also known as Magic City of the Plains, Cheyenne is busting with cultural attractions, historic sites, outdoor activities, and so much more.
Cheyenne is full of art galleries, theater and performing arts, live music, and much more.
Art aficionados, check out the Artful Hand Gallery & Studio, the Cheyenne Artists Guild in the Van Tassell Carriage Barn, Clay Paper Scissors Gallery & Studio, Manitou Galleries, and the Wyoming Arts Council Gallery.
Fans of the performing arts can check the event calendar at the Cheyenne Civic Center and Cheyenne Little Theatre, and be sure to catch the Cheyenne Civic Concert Band and the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra.
Downtown Cheyenne Experience
There’s plenty to do for traveling families in Cheyenne. Most of the Old West attractions are kid-friendly – including shopping and dining with the Downtown Cheyenne Experience – while several activities are here just for the little ones.
Check out the Paul Smith Children's Village at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens, the Kid Corral at the Terry Bison Ranch, and Big Boy Steam Engine in Holiday Park. Be sure to take a family photo in front of the eight-foot Cheyenne Big Boots.
Extra little guys can hop aboard the Cheyenne Steamers miniature train ride, while the whole family may enjoy a tour on the Cheyenne Street Railway Trolley.
Those looking for a history lesson in Capital City need visit the Wyoming State Capitol & State Museum. Itself a National Historic Landmark, the Wyoming State Museum offers artifacts and exhibits on Wyoming heritage – so be sure to reserve a guided tour.
Other historic and Old West attractions in Cheyenne include the Cowgirls of the West Museum, the Cheyenne Depot, the F.E. Warren AFB ICBM & Heritage Museum, the Historic Hynds Building, the Historic Governors' Mansion, the Nelson Museum of the West and the Messenger Museum.
Military attractions in Cheyenne are also plentiful, like the Wyoming National Guard Museum, the Military Memorial Museum, and even the F.E. Warren Air Force Base itself.
Cheyenne Frontier Days
The biggest event in Magic City of the Plains is Cheyenne Frontier Days – the “Daddy of 'em All.” Since 1897, Cheyenne has hosted a 10-day event of PRCA rodeos, parades, live music, carnivals, chuckwagon food, and shopping for Western gear and crafts.
Other annual Cheyenne festivities include the Greek Festival at the Frontier Park Exhibition Hall and the Cheyenne Mineral, Fossil, Gem & Rock Show at the Archer Complex, while continuous events include the Art Tour on Third Thursdays, the Cheyenne Farmers' Market at Depot Plaza.
Hoping to experience beautiful outdoor Wyoming? Stroll through the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens, try mountain biking at Curt Gowdy State Park, and look forward to a slew of activity along the Greater Cheyenne Greenway.
Golfers, bring the clubs to the Kingham Prairie View Golf Course, the Airport Golf Course, and Little America Golf Course. And if you’re like looking for some green space, try Brimmer Park and Cahill Park.
